Hello everyone, In this “HOW TO” article, I will share with you my little experience with small spaces. After years of living in small spaces, I came up with creative ideas on How To Make Small Space Look Bigger; these are the tips and tricks that I think are the most helpful in making your small space look and feel bigger.
Decluttering: The Key to a Spacious Feel
The first one is to not have a ton of clutter. For smaller areas, it’s especially true that the more little things you have, the more chaotic a room can feel. That chaos can make the space feel even smaller. Instead, keep it clutter-free. This extends to having less furniture, décor, trinkets, kitchen gadgets, and all those things that tend to take over an area. For smaller items, my rule of thumb is to avoid items smaller than my fist. Not only do those tend to look more cluttered, but they also require more dusting.
If you have a lot of things you love and want to fill your home with, one solution is to congregate your clutter. Instead of keeping all the little things spread out across the home, move them to the same location. If you have a collection of special things, instead of spreading them across every nook and cranny, relocate them so that they’re all together. Instead of appearing as many little things, it’ll start to look like one beautiful centerpiece.
Intentional Living: Surround Yourself With What You Love
Another tip is to be extremely intentional with everything in your home. Surround yourself with what you love, and you’ll feel happier in your space. If you sacrifice every single thing just because you’re living tiny, you might eventually feel resentful. For example, I love eating healthy. While it makes no sense to have a giant juicer taking up space in my already tiny kitchen, maintaining a healthy lifestyle makes me happier in my home.
Having a pet in a small space can be challenging, especially if it’s a cat that needs a litter box, tunnels, and other accessories. Even so, having a pet can make a small space feel like home. Small-space-friendly pet accessories can help make better use of limited space. Pet water fountains, for instance, encourage pets to drink more water and are a practical addition to small homes. Automatic pet feeders can also be great for convenience, allowing you to manage feeding schedules efficiently without taking up much space.
Lighting: Brighten and Enlarge Your Space
Lighting is another crucial aspect. If you have natural light, use it—keep your windows open when you can. If you don’t have good natural lighting, you can optimize it by using mirrors to reflect light into darker corners. Lighter-weight mirrors can be attached to walls using Velcro strips. Additionally, choosing lighter colors, such as white bedding, can help amplify the light in a room. Layered lighting, like under-cabinet lights or table lamps, can also create mood shifts throughout the day and define zones within the space.
Storage Solutions: Keep It Organized
Avoid open storage as it requires more maintenance and can become a clutter magnet, especially in a small space. Instead, opt for closed storage solutions to maintain a neat appearance. To draw the eye upward, blend baseboards with wall colors or hang curtains and blinds close to the ceiling to create the illusion of higher ceilings. Hanging décor like photos or towel hooks slightly higher than usual can also give the space a more lifted look.
Furniture and Layout: Optimize Every Inch
To lengthen your space, avoid rugs or furniture placement that makes the room feel choppy. Instead, use a large rug that spans most of the room and arrange furniture to open up the space. Allow for breathing room by avoiding pushing all furniture and décor against walls or into corners. For example, placing a bed slightly away from the wall can make the room feel larger.
When it comes to furniture, avoid “small space furniture” that can make a space look cramped. Opt for fewer, full-size furniture pieces instead. Multipurpose furniture, like sofas that double as beds, can save space without sacrificing comfort.
Mindful Design: Less Is More
Less is more. Filling your space with too many prints, patterns, pillows, textures, or layers can overwhelm the room. Stick to one or two favorites and let them shine. Focus on having meaningful pieces rather than an abundance of décor. Over time, embracing a minimalist style with select meaningful pieces can help create a home that reflects your personality.
That’s it. So, These are the tips and tricks I’ve used in all the small spaces I’ve lived in. I would really like to share them with you, and I hope to Benefit all. By incorporating these strategies, you can make your small space feel larger, more functional, and more enjoyable.
