The incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock distracted people’s intentions from this iconic moment.
Lady Gaga and Liza Minnelli are two superstars, at Oscar’s final moments they took the stage to present the Oscar for best picture. With a huge standing ovation by the crowd Lady, gaga turned to Minnelli, took her hand, and said “Do you see that? The public, they love you.”
76 years old with a wheelchair, Minnelli brought happiness to so many people and obtained an outflow on social media. To a lot of people, her being on stage represents “a powerful moment of inclusivity.”
Minnelli was celebrating the 50th anniversary of the movie Cabaret, in which she won an Oscar for best actress back in 1972 and Lady Gaga announced it to the public.
Liza was holding her cue cards and stuttering with her words, until Lady Gaga approached her and said “I got you,” to which Minnelli replied, “I know, thank you.”
This encounter affected a lot of people and it was the high point of the night.
Lady Gaga is such a special one.
The way she's gently handling Liza (and Tony Bennett so many times before) shows you her heart. #TheOscars

Lady Gaga telling Liza Minnelli "I got you" on stage at the Academy Awards in an industry and society that so rarely takes care of its older women. My heart needed that. One day I hope someone will be there to say "I got you" too.

Say what you want about Lady Gaga but you have to respect a performer at the top of their game who takes the time to lovingly connect with and celebrate elders like Tony Bennett and Liza Minnelli in the way she does.

At the end of announcing the nominees, Liza told Lady Gaga that she was happy to be there as she was her biggest fan. Scot Gorenstein, a former publicist of Minnelli added that “Lady Gaga requested that Liza present the award with her.”
