This Irish contender was told 2 years ago by doctors that he wouldn’t be able to walk ever again while he was in fantastic shape and feeling great.
Barry Darcy said to the judges fighting his emotions “ To be honest, it’s a bit of a sad story, It’s quite difficult for me to talk about. I thought I’d never sing again but I’m here to try.”
Every single morning, Darcy wakes up and swings his feet to the side of the bed, preparing himself for the day. However one morning he was shocked when he fell to the floor and couldn’t walk. after seeing a doctor, Barry somehow had herniated a disc in his back which had crushed the main nerve controlling his legs, paralyzing him from the waist down.
After seeing a lot of doctors and every single one of them just said that it is impossible for him to walk again. But that didn’t stop Barry to fight back and going through extensive recovery, encouraged by his wife and kids.
After overcoming so many obstacles and problems Barry believes his family developed an unbreakable bond, they are now a “solid, solid unit” seeing his kids and wife’s sacrifices while he was sitting in the wheelchair made him choose Elvis Presley’s song “the wonder of you” to perform in the show.
He started singing and just like that, he turned from a normal dad to a prime Elvis. His presence and confidence were on point. The crowd and the judges were singing and dancing along with Barry.
In the end, they gave him a standing ovation for his unbelievable performance. One of the judges named Louis Walsh started to compliment Barry and show him love and support then hopped off his chair and hit the golden buzzer.
Everybody was in wow after Barry finished his performance, his strong belief and positive vibe showed us that it is always possible to get up after you fall down.
“I’m singing an Elvis Presley song, ‘The Wonder of You, and it means a lot to me now because I sat back in that wheelchair and I looked at my family and I saw what they were doing for me and having to carry on with their own lives while dealing with what was going on with me,” he said. “The words in that song, when no one else can understand me, they did understand me and they understood very well what was going on with me.”
